U moet het Epson-stuurprogramma installeren om deze scanner op Windows x86 en Mac OS X te gebruiken. Op Mac OS X is dit gewoonlijk al geïnstalleerd door Software Update, dus VueScan moet gewoon werken.

Epson Perfection 4490 Scanner Software
Merk op dat Epson-stuurprogramma's voor Windows Vista of hoger gewoonlijk ook werken op Windows 10. Drivers voor Mac OS X 10.6 of hoger werken meestal ook op Mac OS X 10.12 (Sierra).
Epson heeft deze scanner in sommige landen verkocht als de GT-X750.
